One of the most beautiful festivals in Thailand
is Loy Krathong which is held on the full moon in October/November.
This is the time of the year when people go to the local river
or canals to ask Mother of Water for forgiveness in polluting
the water over the past year. |

During the afternoon, there are parades and
a beauty pageant. In the photograph at the top of the page, the
contestants are being paraded around the town on the back of
samlors. There is also a competition for the most beautiful
krathong. |

On the approach to the City Hall and around
the market, there are many stalls selling krathongs. Many of
these are made from banana leaves. After buying one, people take
them down to the riverfront to float on the water. As they push
their krathong away they make a wish for their future. |
