Malee and Jane stayed at Ancient Siam for more than four hours. They were feeling hot and tired. Malee suggested that they should finish by going to Bang Pu Seaside Resort to feed the seagulls and to enjoy the cool fresh air. They catch a songtaew that is going to Klong Dan and get off at Bang Pu.
| Malee: |
My parents used to bring us here a lot when we were younger but I haven’t been here since I was in Primary 5. Let’s go onto the pier. |
| Jane: |
It is very windy here. I was hot before but now I feel very cool. I can see it is a very popular place to come, as there are lots of people. |
| Malee: |
Yes, it is popular in the late afternoon and at weekends. But, it is too hot to come here during the day. Let’s buy some food for the birds, it is only 10 baht per cup. |
| Jane: |
There must be thousands of seagulls here. Look, that one nearly hit me. It came down so low. Are they here all year? |
| Malee: |
My father says that they come here from Siberia when it is too cold for them. They stay in Thailand between October and March. |
| Jane: |
Look, they are very clever. I just throw the food up into the air and they can catch it as they fly past. |
| Malee: |
Stand there and I will take your picture feeding the birds. |
| Jane: |
Thanks. What are those people doing over there walking on the mud? |
| Malee: |
I think they are fishermen. You often see them when it is low tide. They are either looking for crabs or shellfish like cockles or mussels. When it is high tide they then go out on their boats to catch fish. |
| Jane: |
I wish we could go out on a boat. I think it would be good fun. |
| Malee: |
We can catch the ferryboat tomorrow if you like. It will take us across the river and we can then explore the other side. |
| Jane: |
That sounds like fun. What are all those sticks in the mud? |
| Malee: |
I think they were put there to stop land erosion. A lot of land along here has been lost to the sea. My sister came here last month with her school. They helped plant hundreds of mangrove saplings in the mud here. |
| Jane: |
That is great. I think it is time to go home. I am very tired. |
