The shrine on the road outside the museum
is at it's busiest in the period leading up to the lottery days
(1st and 16th of each month). Someone once made a wish to win
the lottery while they were on a bus passing the shrine. Apparently
they won the next day and word quickly spread.
There will be literally hundreds of people
on these days buying bananas and sugar cane as an offering for
the elephant and also lottery tickets for themselves.
People that have won a lot of money on the
lottery or had a big wish come true, sometimes pay for circus
entertainers to perform in front of the elephant. For the public,
it is a free show.
