Plaeng
Faifah Fort
Plaeng Faifah Fort is located
in Phra Pradaeng District on the west bank of the Chao Phraya
River. It was built by King Rama II in 1810 as part of the defensive
of the city. The fort is now a park for local residents. From
the gun emplacements you can look down to the car ferries that
go back and forth across the river.

remaining guns pointing out towards the river.
Phi
Sua Samut Fort
Phi Sua Samut Fort is on
an island in the Chao Phraya River and is sometimes referred
to as the Inner Fort. The island is not open to the public. However,
if you take a passenger ferry between Paknam Market and Phra
Samut Chedi you will pass quite close to it.

Nakarat
Fort
Nakarat Fort is on the
west bank of the Chao Phraya River not far from Phra Samut Chedi.
The fort dates back to 1822 to the time when King Rama II was
fortifying the approach to Bangkok. Not much of the fort remains
today apart from a few small structures for storing the cannon
balls and a stretch of wall here and there. Much of the brickwork
is covered in vegetation and is difficult to find or even see
properly.

(Above left and
right): Some of the best remains of the fort can be seen in the
grounds of Pomnakaratswatyanon Secondary School. In the above
photographs you can see the armory and one of four cannons on
show around the school. Behind the canteen and towards the toilets
are long stretches of wall, but much of it has now fallen down
and is covered in vegetation. If you walk down a lane next to
the school you will come across other evidence of the fort.
