 VEGETARIAN FESTIVAL PARADE: On the last day of the ten day Vegetarian Festival, 27th October 2009, a big parade was held through town. Hundreds of people took part in the parade including three dancing dragons that performed in front of the City Pillar.
 LUANG PHOR PAN FESTIVAL AT BANG BO: Mr. Chana Nopsuwan, the new deputy Governor of Samut Prakan, is seen here applyรืเ gold leaf onto the image of the revered monk Luang Phor Pan. At Bang Bo Town, they have a three day worship festival from 26th -28th October 2009.
 CHULALONGKORN DAY: Mr. Surachai Khanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan, laid a wreath at the foot of the statue of King Rama V (King Chulalongkorn) at Phra Chulachomklao Fort on the afternoon of 23rd October 2009. King Rama V is regarded as one of the most loved Thai monarchs. Thai people all over the country took part in similar ceremonies to mark his death on this day. LOOKING BACK TO THE OLD BANGKOK EXHIBITION: As part of the celebrations for Chulalongkorn Day, the Ancient Siam have organized special events to showcase life in old time Bangkok during the reign of King Rama V. They had on display traditional Thai food of the period as well as traditional Thai music, old costumes and photographs and also an old style post box. FEAST FOR DEAD SOULS: On Friday 22nd October, local Thai-Chinese people celebration the Vegetarian Festival went to Rong Jay Thong Siang in Taiban to offer a feast to their dead ancestors. LUANG PHOR PAN FESTIVAL: Mr. Surachai Khanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan, is seen here applying gold leaf onto an image of revered monk Luang Phor Pan on Thursday 22nd October at Wat Mongkhol Khotawat in Klong Dan City. The image is first taken on a boat out into the Gulf of Thailand followed by hundreds of small vessels for a "wien tien". BHUMIBOL BRIDGES 1 & 2: H.M. The King has granted the name Bhumibol 1 to the northern bridge across the Chao Phraya River linking Bangkok and Samut Prakan, and the name Bhumibol 2 to the southern bridge that links Phra Pradaeng City and Samrong Tai.
 NOVICE MONK ORDINATION: Over the weekend of 17th-18th October, over 100 local students went through an ordination ceremony at Wat Chai Mongkhol. On Saturday, the students had their hair shaved and then they took part in a parade through town where they visited the City Pillar.
 VEGETARIAN FESTIVAL: A special ceremony was held at Thong Siang Vegetarian House on Saturday 17th October to signal the start of the annual Vegetarian Festival. For the next ten days, devotees will purify their bodies and minds and keep a strict vegetarian diet.

 THONG SIANG VEGETARIAN HOUSE: Somdet Phra Phuttacharn (Somdet Kiaw), the Acting Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, is seen here at the dedication ceremony of Thong Siang Vegetarian House after its recent restoration.  WALL OF DEATH AT TEMPLE FAIR: One of the most thrilling sideshows at the Temple Fair is the Wall of Death. Here motorcycles and a pick-up truck are driven up a vertical wall to the top inches away from the spectators.
 WIEN TIEN AT PHRA SAMUT CHEDI: During the evening of the 12th October, Mr. Surachai Khanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan, attended chanting and a candlelight procession at Phra Samut Chedi.

 TRADITIONAL SPORTS AT PHRA SAMUT CHEDI: During the morning of Monday 12th October, local people in Phra Samut Chedi District came together to take part in traditional sports. These included long boat racing, eating cockles, thatching roofs, catching crabs and muay talay (sea boxing). The guest of honour was Mr. Surachai Khanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan.

 SAMUT PRAKAN FOOTBALL CLUB: On Sunday 11th October we went to watch Samut Prakarn FC play a match with Chiang Rai United. It was an exciting match that kept the home supporters entertained but unfortunately we lost 1-2. In this photograph, Mr. Surachai Khanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan, is greeting the players.
 PHRA SAMUT CHEDI TEMPLE FAIR: The Temple Fair in Samut Prakan has been running now for 182 years which makes it the oldest fair in Thailand. The fair kicked off on Friday with a parade through town and then the red cloth was wrapped around the pagoda in a special ceremony. The guest of honour was the Minister of Interior, Mr. Chavarat Charnvirakul.

 BOAT RACING AT PHRA PRADAENG: One of the biggest boat racing events in Samut Prakan took place recently in front of the District Office at Phra Pradaeng. Different kinds of boats raced down the Chao Phraya River near the Mega Bridge.
 RAP BUA FESTIVAL: One of the best festivals that takes place in Samut Prakan every year is the Rap Bua Festival at Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai. Thousands of local people lined the banks of Samrong Canal and threw lotus flowers towards a boat carrying a sacred Buddha image.
 MISS POLAND 2009 PARTICIPANTS AT ANCIENT SIAM: Contestants competing in the 2009 Miss Poland are presently touring Thailand shooting a documentary that will be shown later during the contest. Their main stops include Pattaya and Phuket. On 6th October, they also visited the Ancient Siam in Samut Prakan.

 BOAT RACING AT BANG PHLI: Towards the end of the Buddhist Rains Retreat, when the river is at its highest level, local people from Bang Phli come together to race boats on Samrong Canal.
 NEW GOVERNOR FOR SAMUT PRAKAN: Mr. Surachai Khanasa, takes over the role of Governor of Samut Prakan as of 1st October 2009. Mr. Surachai used to be the Vice Governor. Mr. Kwanchai Wongnitikon, who was Governor from 2008-2009, will become Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Permanent Secretary. Mr. Gumtorn Thavornstit, who was the other Vice Governor is now the Governor of Mae Hong Son Province.
