Wat Phichai Songkram is located in Tambon
Paknam, Muang District near the City Hall. It was constructed towards the end of the Ayutthaya
period in the reign of King Taisra (1708-1732) and is one of
the oldest temples in Samut Prakarn. It is not known who constructed
this temple but it was formerly known as Wat Po. During the reign
of King Rama II, the temple was renovated by Phraya Phichai Songkram
and the wat was then named after him. However, most people call
it by its nickname, Wat Nok. When the temple was first built
it was on the outskirts of the town which is what nok
means. Inside the old town there is another temple called Wat Nai which means "in".
