Thai Naval Museum

LOCATION: Just north of the City Hall on Sukhumwit Road, opposite the Naval Academy

The museum contains information about the naval history of Thailand which Samut Prakan province played an important part. In the museum grounds are a seaplane, the conning tower of a submarine, tanks and various guns. Inside there are many model ships. The highlights include H.T.M.S. Machanu, the first submarine in Thailand, and the first lighthouse in Thailand.

On Children’s Day, the second Saturday in January, there are special exhibits and shows for the kids in the museum grounds and in the Navy Academy opposite. Admission is free.

GETTING THERE: From Bangkok, the easiest way to reach the museum is by Skytrain on the Green Line. Get off at BTS Royal Naval Academy station and take Exit One. It is on the opposite side of the road to the academy. There is a seaplane and the conning tower of a submarine on the front lawn. You cannot miss it.
